South Korea has been recently on the podium choice of visit for the foreign tourists who are planning their international trips, due to the country’s cultural and scenic beauty. Despite this popularity, numerous families who are planning their trips to Korea struggle to find travel spots worth visiting. In celebration of “family month”, most widely known as May, here is an introductory course to one of Korea’s most majestic parks, Seoul Grand Park.
Many tourists first identify Seoul Grand Park as a misnomer, as in actuality, it is not located inside Seoul. Despite this, it is still very accessible, as the park is interconnected with the Seoul metros and its own internal transportation system like the Kokkiri Yeolcha (Elephant Train). Through lane 4 of Seoul Metro, you can go to Grand Park station which leads to the entrance of Seoul Grand Park.
There are 5 sections of Seoul Grand Park that visitors can visit: Seoul Zoo, Theme Garden, Grand Park Camping Site, Seoul Land, along with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
Seoul Zoo, or Seoul Grand Park Zoo, is home to the most exclusive animal species. It is also the first ever zoo in Asia to have been certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Not only this but what makes Seoul Zoo stand out from its counterparts is that it is the oldest zoo in all of Korea. Seoul Zoo was originally located at Chang Kyung Palace, and it was created by Japanese colonizers for entertainment purposes. After Korea’s independence, the government decided to move the zoo to its current location, which later became Seoul Grand Park.
Seoul Grand Park Botanical Garden is also one of the go-to places for the plant-lovers. Since 1985, Seoul Grand Park Botanical Garden has fostered around 1,567 types of flora. The garden is divided into 5 different indoor sections: Desert Pavilion, 1st Tropical Pavilion, 2nd Tropical Pavilion, Warm Temperature Pavilion, and Carnivorous Plant Pavilion. Outside of the greenhouse are theme gardens with different seasonal flowers.
While the park’s camping site and art museum are significant places worth a visit, the most idyllic place that all family members could enjoy is Seoul Land. Seoul Land is one of the theme parks in Korea with kid-friendly attractions. There are a total of 38 attractions with different levels of thrills and concepts. Because of its flat terrain, it doesn’t require much energy to move around from place to place.
While Seoul consists of places full of excitement and attractions, Seoul Grand Park is one of the best choices to refer to when you’re traveling on a family basis. For further information, visit Seoul Grand Park’s official website.
